Under the Mais Peixe Sustentável programme, 73 fishing associations from the Cabo Delgado districts of Mecúfi, Metuge and Pemba have received transport, processing and fish preservation equipment. The materials include motorbikes, bicycles, freezers, cool boxes (coolers) and solar panel systems.
The handover ceremony took place on Saturday, 6 June 2026, in the city of Pemba, and was led by the Governor of Cabo Delgado Province, Valige Tauabo, and witnessed by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Blue Economy Development Fund, Oswaldo Petersburgo.
Speaking shortly after the handover, the provincial governor explained that the equipment was not provided free of charge, as beneficiary associations contributed 20% of the acquisition cost.
The equipment is expected to improve working conditions for beneficiaries, increase fish preservation and marketing capacity, and consequently boost household incomes.
