Governor of Cabo Delgado Valige Tauabo on Saturday (17-08) delivered 14,000 bags of cement to families in Marokani settlement village, Ancuabe district, displaced from the central and northern regions of the province by terrorism. The cement is aimed at improving the durability of the floors and walls of Marokani residents’ homes.
Tauabo said that the cement would benefit 500 families in Marokani, strengthening their homes and reducing the production of dust, one of the causes of respiratory diseases and symptoms such as coughing, sneezing, allergies and lung pain, thereby significantly improving the health of Marokani residents.
The cement was provided by the Agency for the Integrated Development Agency of the North (ADIN), with support from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), as part of the program to restore and rebuild the lives of displaced families.
“We hope that the displaced families of Marokani will improve the conditions of the floors and walls of their homes with this material, in order to avoid dust that is harmful to health, and ensure the resilience of their homes,” Governor Tauabo said.
The provincial governor appealed to the beneficiary families to use the cement exclusively to improve their homes, with ADIN chairman Jacinto Loureiro noting that the initiative, implemented by the government and partners, is part of the Immediate Reconstruction and Stabilization Program for Cabo Delgado.
Representatives of partner organizations, including Ali Ibrahim Ali of IOM, the International Organization for Migration, and Samuel Akera, head of the United Nations Development Program’s UNOPS sub-office, committed to continue providing multi-faceted support for families displaced by terrorism and others.
