In a gesture that reinforces the model of public-private partnerships in sustainable urban development, Pemba Municipal Council and the Mozambique LNG Foundation recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the installation of 100 public lighting posts with solar lamps in various locations in Pemba city.
The ceremony took place in the office of the Mayor of the Municipal Council, Satar Abdulgani, who highlighted the importance of the initiative for improving traffic and public safety, especially at night, on the main roads and peripheral areas of the city.
“We would like to thank the Mozambique LNG Foundation for this gesture, which will contribute significantly to improving the quality of life of our citizens. Public lighting has a direct impact on the mobility, safety and well-being of the population,” the mayor of Pemba said.
In turn, the head of the Mozambique LNG Foundation, Narjess Saidane, expressed the institution’s satisfaction in being able to collaborate with initiatives that have a direct impact on the lives of residents.
“We are very happy to have this opportunity to contribute to an issue that is a priority for the city of Pemba, in a way that is fast enough to support the municipality’s own efforts to improve the lives of the citizens of Pemba,” Saidane said.
The action is part of continuing initiatives and joint efforts to promote sustainable and environmentally responsible solutions, through the use of renewable energy for the expansion of the public lighting network.
This event, held on June 27, 2025 was preceded by the delivery of the Paquitequete water system, which can supply 5,000 families, also carried out by the same institution, the Mozambique LNG Foundation.
The installation of the lighting posts should begin in the coming months, with priority given to neighbourhoods with less public lighting.
