The country celebrates on June 25th of this year (2025), 50 Years of National Independence, an event that will coincide with the arrival of the Torch of the Flame of National Unity at the Machava Stadium, after traveling through all the Districts of the country.
It is in this path that this Sunday, April 13, 2025, in the District of Balama, the Governor of Cabo Delgado, Valige Tauabo, held the Official Launch of Dialogues with Youth in this Province.
The leader gave an overview of the history of Mozambique, from colonization, the unification of the three movements that fought in isolation against Portuguese colonialism for the liberation of the country, which resulted in the formation of the Mozambique Liberation Front (FRELIMO), which led the Struggle for National Independence.
Tauabo made it known that the Mozambican people are not enemies of the Portuguese people, what was happening at the time was a system of exploitation of Man by Man and the exploitation or squandering of natural resources.
Currently, young people have the challenge of leading the fight for economic independence, in order to remove the country from the list of nations with poverty rates.
In view of the shutdown of the Balama graphite factory by resettled citizens, mostly young people, who are demanding compensation, the leader appealed to the youth to know how to separate good from evil, because when this factory was in operation it employed many young people from Balama.
Despite this situation, Tauabo praised the determination of the youth of this District who are making progress in various fields.
The youth of Balama asked for sports equipment, a library, self-employment kits, the establishment of a driving school, and the youth representative of the Balama Agricultural Institute requested the installation of a research laboratory at that educational institution.
The Provincial Director of Youth, Employment and Sports, Jonas Abujate, responding to the concerns of the young people explained that the list of concerns will be forwarded to each targeted sector, and the sports equipment was delivered at the same time.
Regarding sports equipment, Jonas Abujate made it known that the Provincial Executive Council, through the Provincial Directorate of Youth, Employment and Sports, encourages the creation of District Teams where the Executive will channel support.
300 people participated in the dialogue with youth, including young leaders of political parties and several Sports Associations in the Balama District.
The Dialogue was held under the motto, “50 Years of Independence, Achievements, Challenges and Lessons for Youth”.
