The Rovuma LNG consortium has begun the basic engineering phase for natural gas exploration in Area 4 of the Rovuma Basin, in Cabo Delgado province, the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy (MIREME) announced on Wednesday (28).
A statement from the institution said that the consortium has moved on to award and sign “competitive contracts” for the engineering, procurement and construction of the project.
The activities are expected to last around 16 months and represent the last stage before the Final Investment Decision (FID) is taken, scheduled for 2026.
The president of ExxonMobil Mozambique, Frank Kretschmer, said that the award and execution of the basic engineering contracts is a significant step towards the development of the “world-class Rovuma LNG” project.
The Rovuma LNG Project will produce, liquefy and market natural gas from reservoirs in the Area 4 block of the Rovuma Basin and includes the construction of 12 modules of 1.5 million tons per year each.
